Yes, I had to work on a Saturday evening. But I’m sure you would be okay with that too if your company was watching as your satellites were hurled into space. Rocket Lab just made history by reaching orbit on only their second attempt... and they did it with a rocket made out of composites and 3D printed parts. Incredible.

In case you’re wondering, both my company (Spire) and Rocket Lab are hiring ;)

For some added context: this last tweet has 2 pictures that both show our little satellites shooting away from the rocket body. Camera is looking down the rocket body.

Very cool indeed! I just finished watching the recorded livestream a few minutes ago! Congrats to both you and RocketLab, quite the achievement!

Would love to be a part of a project like that, but a History/English degree and an Education degree do not Rocket Science material make...haha!

That’s awesome.

I don’t suppose you are looking for any Python or .Net software developers? :p

Saw the livestream, awesome job by the Rocket Labs team. Assuming you guys actually paid for the ride, that adds New Zealand to the very small list of countries with commercial space industries.

Oh man, so tempting. I’m not sure how well the Mrs. would appreciate moving to San Francisco though. I suspect even with a higher salary, the cost of living would wipe it out.

It’s scary how close those requirements are to what I’m currently doing (web services development for agricultural software, running on AWS with a PostgreSQL database).

Hah, where are you now? I’m good at providing compelling reasons for spouses to be here. Weather, hiking, local kid-friendly activities, breweries, etc!

True! Doubt they have an education officer though! :P

Maybe I’ll just get them all to play Kerbal Space Program... :D

You did. :P

I’d almost feel like I’d be leading someone on if I applied and didn’t have the intent of actually taking the position. Still, it would be pretty insane to work in the aerospace industry. When I was younger I wanted to be an aerospace engineer. Then I discovered video game development and graphics programming. :P I realized it was probably unlikely that I’d be able to make a living doing that, so I went into doing business software development. I started with oil and gas financial software, then into oil and gas camp management. I went back for a masters, then landed a job where I’m at now, doing agricultural software.

Interesting. I went similarly from the game industry into higher ed then aerospace. We actually have a lot of ex-game folks (and current gamers).
